Story# 1- Children of Full Moon –“Bhutnu” Kailash Mansarovar

Story 1- Full Moon Night divine madness –Pooranmashi or full moon night has deep significance at the “Shiv Bhoomi” If you happen to be there at Kailash Mansarovar region or near Lake Mansarovar then you may witness Children of the Moon coming down via mountain slopes to Earth

The entire Kailash area becomes bright and silvery and doors of heaven open just near the “MOON”, It is like a DOOR opening from the Moon, and a gateway to heaven is opened, few visitors in the past believed that children of the Moon traveled to Kailash land on a full moon night play until they get tired and leave. There is a sound of laughter kids playing around in circles, as if heaven has descended to this part of the Earth, and with a flash of lightning the door of heaven closes and children return. It is considered that any pure soul on a quest to explore the Kailash region on a full moon night will find a silvery doorway to heaven.

Story #2- Lord Shiva and Parvati come alive on Full moon night

Many pilgrims have believed to have seen Lord Shiva and Parwati coming alive on a full Moon night and take a holy dip at “Mansarovar Lake”, pilgrims who have seen this can’t believe their eyes, as on a full moon night, there is divine madness and serene beauty around lake Mansarovar as if Moon God itself want to visit this place to pay tribute to mighty Shiva.

Lord Shiva and goddess “Parvati” are believed to have baths in this Lake. In the morning around 4 am on a full moon night at a special point around Lake Mansarova, many pilgrims believed to have visually seen the god and Goddess taking a holy dip and holy water getting dispersed just like when a human takes a holy dip and bathes in the lake and a “splash” is generated.

Story# 3- Full Moon Saga Dawa festival –to celebrate the life events of Lord Buddha

Saga means “4th” and Dawa means “ month” in Tibetan which means on the 4th month of the year thousands of Tibetan monks and Buddhists visit Kailash Mansarovar yatra and consider the 15th day full moon night has special significance as “Sakyamuni” was born, attained Nirvana (enlightenment), stepped into Parinirvana -death.

Saga Dawa Festival in Tibet

Monks visit Kailash Mansarovar and offer prayers to the holy mountain and also complete Kora Parikrama around full moon night which is considered very auspicious also known as “MONTH OF MERITS” in Tibetan and Buddhism religions.

It is known as a festival of the poor as Tibetan people just like Thanksgiving will feed the hungry and extend material help.

Festival of Liberating Living Things – Buddhists don’t kill any animal during the Saga festival and believe prayers and good deeds get multiplied 1000 times during this holy month. They worship and offer free food and service to the poor and needy.
